About
our Founder
With more than a decade of experience across custom residential construction, renovations, and restorations, founder Jake Scammell has built a reputation for delivering work of an uncompromising standard. Having managed teams and projects throughout Melbourne, the Northern Rivers, Townsville, and Tasmania, he recognised early in his career that the level of detail, care, and accountability he expected from himself wasn't always reflected across the industry.
After settling in Southern Tasmania, Jake established Hinterhaus to bring a more considered approach to building. One that values quality over shortcuts, thoughtful design over trends, and lasting craftsmanship over quick results.
As a home and property owner himself, Jake understands the unique demands of building and living in Tasmania. From selecting materials suited to the local climate to ensuring every finish stands the test of time, each decision is approached with longevity, functionality, and long-lasting aesthetic appeal in mind.
Today, Hinterhaus specialises in architecturally considered custom builds, renovations, and restorations throughout Southern Tasmania. Working closely with home and property owners, Jake and his team guide each project with transparency, precision, and genuine care from the first conversation through to completion.
“Jake takes great pride in his work and it shows in the excellent results. We have used him on four jobs now, the last one requiring him to work on the house while we were away. No problem and good communication. Every job was completed on time and to a high standard. Jake is happy to listen to ideas you may have and can turn them into reality. He always leaves the job spotless. We have recommended Jake to our friends who have all been very happy with his work. Plus he is a nice, easy going guy. Highly recommended.”
